Shannox as Retribution

The typical first fight for any group entering Firelands, Shannox won't be much of a challenge for a capable group. If you watch where you step and manage your cooldowns, this shouldn't be to big of a test for a Ret Pally. So sit back, relax, and flex those DPS muscles. As with all posts on bosses in Firelands, I will assume you already have knowledge of the strategy and mechanics of the fight. For information on this fight and more, visit learntoraid.com for the best guides on the web.

NORMAL: For normal mode, the fight demands more movement and awareness than its heroic counterpart. Rageface has no aggro table, so when burning him at the begining of a fight, feel free to take advantage of that prepot and use AW, Zealotry, and whatever else is available to you. He does tend to run around a lot so be sure to watch your feet and not to run into traps. I would recommend zooming in a bit during this fight, to help see what is around your feet and what you may be about to run into. After killing RF your raid will usually be switching to the boss for some burn time. If you used your CDs at the very start of the fight then odds are they are up again for this phase. If they are available and Shannox is above 50 or 55%, pop them and work him down as much as you can before the call to switch to Riplimb. Keep in mind that RL has an aggro table and needs to be positioned rather carefully, so keep an eye on your threat. Divine Protection is also a nice cooldown to pop during the fire circle when Shannox throws his spear. Not that its difficult to avoid anyway, but on the chance that you get clipped, its always good to help your healers. Stepping in a prison trap is particularly inconvenient during this phase also, due to the need for your DPS and the convenience of RL hitting one himself. Watch your feet. With RL dead and the raid switching to the final burn phase, hero is typically popped and your CDs will likely be up from earlier. Blow your potion and guardian and go to town.

HEROIC: The fight is, in my eyes, significantly easier on heroic. Just watch for the traps around the boss from Tanks and the Melee (having rogues to disarm traps can make this fight even more simple) and stay on Shannox. Give the Tank a few seconds for threat, then pop your cooldowns in the most beneficial order for you, again taking advantage of the prepot that you hopefully used. Should RF aggro onto you, as he tend to do randomly, you can either bubble him off, or kite him around, idealy aiming for a prison trap. Be sure to find out before the fight when hero will be popped so you can coordinate your CDs accordingly. All in all its a regularly easy fight. Use it as a practice for more difficult HMs and to work on your dps and awareness for later in the instance.
