Lord Rhyolith as Retribution

This ancient elemental has an interesting sense of humor and drives like a semi, but can be relatively simple for the right group. Listen to the calls of your driver, or make the right ones if you're behind the wheel, and you'll have an easy time on this encounter. As always, keep eyes on your feet for avoidable damage, and time your cooldowns correctly, and you will have a fun time on this rock Lord here. So buckle up (bad joke, I know) and get ready for Lord Rhyolith. As with all posts on bosses in Firelands, I will assume you already have knowledge of the strategy and mechanics of the fight. For information on this fight and more, visit learntoraid.com for the best guides on the web.

NORMAL: This fight is pretty simple on normal. I still find it best, in terms of driving, to start off all hard right until he activates a volcano. If it isn't the one close to you in the back, you can still go ahead and stomp this one out so you can avoid needing to run back to it later in the fight. Some groups like the driving strategy of having all DPS go hard on a foot when the call is made and otherwise just jump back and forth to keep it even when he's going straight. I prefer, however, to have the DPS split, so that you can quickly get to a place where it is an even divide. Try both and find out which works best for you. Save CD's for when you need to make a close turn in case a bad directional call is made but, if you can, try and save pots, guardian, and trinkets until his armor is low or for the sub 25% burn. As long as your driver makes the right calls and you switch targets fast (I click a lot during this fight) you shouldn't trip up too much on normal Rhyolith.

HEROIC: Heroic Lord Rhyolith is more of a handful. The calls have to be perfect, and your switching needs to be instant. If you are going with the 'group always on the same leg/hop back and forth' method, you might want to set up a /assist target macro on one of your more competent melee leaders to be sure you aren't absentmindedly on the wrong leg. Slow turns lead to fast deaths. Again, try and save your CD's for dire turning situations, but you will need them to be up for the pre-superheated burn, so be aware of how long it is taking your group to get the legs down. Drivers, you will especially want to avoid non-active volcanos on heroic. That damage in P2 is painful and you don't want to put everything on your heals. Speaking of avoidable damage...DON'T get hit by magma flow. 1 I can understand. There can be a lot going on late in that fight, but as melee there is really no excuse to get nailed by that early on. Pop Divine Protection when you see that its about to be cast if you don't see it, to at least try and avoid some of that extra damage.  If you keep your wits about you and make sure to switch correctly, you wont have too much trouble with Lord Rhyolith. The lasers during P2 are pretty easy to avoid, more importantly than you getting hit is your unsespecting co-raiders. Be careful not to drag the beams through your group for an easy wipe. Otherwise, keep your eyes on the road and focus on using your cooldowns but having them up for the burn, and you will be just fine for Lord Rhyolith.
